Recycling at S&T

Paper  

Paper recycling is the easiest and most common.  

Acceptable Items:

  • Copy/printer paper
  • Notebook paper
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Soft cover books
  • Books w/ hard covers removed
  • Small boxes (Kleenex, cracker/cereal)

Non Acceptable Items:

  • Paper towels/Kleenex
  • Binder clips
  • Hard cover books
  • 3-ring binders
  • Wire spirals

Paper is collected from hallways by custodians and transported to outside bins; picked up by the City of Rolla Environmental Services.

Plastic

Plastic bins are adopted by various student groups, departments and individuals.  The adoptees collect the plastic and take to the designated enclosure behind Fulton Hall; picked up by City of Rolla Environmental Services. 

ClearStream Recycling Bin   Both #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) plastics are accepted.

This partnership with the City of Rolla has resulted in over 9 tons of plastic being recycled from our campus since January 2009.  Adopting a bin is easy.  Contact Julie to get your bin.

Plastic Recycling Facts

Cardboard

To recycle Cardboard, empty and flatten the box and place in hallway near recycling center or station.

Metal

Metal recycling is handled by the custodial staff as well as through Surplus.  To recycle aluminum, deposit your empty can in any bin marked as Aluminum.

Electronics

Electronics are also recycled by calling the Surplus Office at 573-341-6150 or e-mailing Greg Hook. 

Batteries

Battery recycling is handled through the Environmental Health & Safety Department.
